My newest hero
I read this today in the Sunday Times (London). Any parent out there should be able to relate to this annoyed, but ingenious, woman.
Strict Mother of the Week
Frustrated mother Tasha Henderson, tired of her daughter's bad exam results, lateness and backchat to teachers, decided on drastic action. She made her 14-year-old stand at a busy junction in Oklahoma City with a cardboard sign that read:
"I don't do my homework and I act up in school, so my parents are
perparing me for my future. Will work for food."
Bravo! I'm saving that one for my arsenal.

It's weird, that's been all over the news here, and people are really divided over her solution. Some say it's brilliant, others call it abusive.
I think that, since she stood there with her the whole time it wasn't abusive. I think every parent knows that it was a million times more embarrassing for the mom than it was for the daughter (I'm sure you agree on that!)
I'm not sure what happened in our society that made trying to raise productive children a bad thing?
that is priceless..LOL
I need to get 3 ready..LOL...u have any boxes???
yeah, some passer-by called the cops because they considered that "psychological abuse". whatever. i think that embarrassing your teenager may be the best way to get through to them. the girl wasn't hurt, and it's not like she was standing outside in a torrential downpour or anything. obviously her mother felt that something drastic had to be done in order to get the girl to pull her thumb out of her ass. i think it was a brilliant idea.
Fabulous idea! I don't think it was abusive at all. I think that with teens, you have to get their attention sometimes to show them that you really do mean business. I'm sure the daughter will think twice before she blows off another assignment or "forgets" to study for an exam. Way to go MOM!
wow...I really need to watch the news I hadn't heard about this.
Wonder what's happening to that mom...I am sure society is all over her about it. I say "WAY TO GO MOM!!" It takes a lot of guts to do that.
unless the child was chained or otherwise immobilised it wasn't abusive. she could have walked off. she could have taken the board off & refused to wear it. but she didn't, she accepted that was her punishment & was probably glad it wasn't worse - mum could have made her wear it to the school prom:-)
First time I've heard about it but it certainly doesn't seem abusive to me. Although I don't understand how she got her daughter to actually comply with this. Me, I would have preferred being grounded until I was forty to standing outside looking like a fool.
Brilliant
Might backfire - might make the kid resentful on top of lazy, but still.....
r u still alive??
I have a new address...if u click on my name it should take you there:)
